Sunday School Purpose
The purpose of Sunday School is to establish students of all ages from one to 101 more deeply in biblical truths. Classes are generally divided up by age groups to more effectively teach and reach each student.
The other areas of the Sunday School department are extension classes, cradle roll, childrens' church, and Vacation Bible School(VBS). This is by no means an exhaustive list, but merely the more prominent areas of ministry under the Sunday School department.
The extension department's mission is to reach those who are shut-in or shut-out. The shut-ins are those who cannot get out. This would include the elderly and ill. They often cannot make it to church but need the fellowship and teaching of the word. Therefore, the Church does her best to reach out to these and extend the love of Christ to them. Shut-outs are those who because of their work schedules are unable to make to church sometimes.
The Cradle Roll Department is designed to reach out to families with children ages two and under. It is operated in conjunction with the church nursery. It is in effect and outreach of the nursery.
Childrens' Church is a time especially set aside for the children during regular services. It is not merely a babysitting service but a chance for children to have a worship service geared towards them.
Vacation Bible School is a time period of days or a week during which the church makes an extra effort to reach out to the children in the community. It provides them an opportunity to experience several months worth of Sunday School classes in just a few short days.
